City Council approved additional funding for the $14 million renovation of the former motel into The Haven for people experiencing homelessness.

LINCOLN SQUARE — City Council on Wednesday approved an additional $5.5 million toward the renovation of a former Lincoln Square motel into transitional housing for Chicagoans experiencing homelessness.

The Haven on Lincoln is replacing the Diplomat Motel, 5230 N. Lincoln Ave., as part of a $14 million renovation. Its 46 motel rooms will be converted into 40 rooms tied to supportive services, including mental health and medical care for people experiencing homelessness who have unaddressed physical and behavioral health needs.

City officials announced the pilot program last year with the possibility that it could be open at the end of 2024, but those plans were delayed because of contract negotiations between the contractor and the city, Ald. Andre Vasquez (40th) told Block Club on Tuesday. Read More Here.
