• Local Development Projects

  • Development projects in Lincoln Square and Ravenswood are guided by zoning and land use policies administered by the Chicago Department of Planning and Development (DPD).  Local Alderman oversee public input at the neighborhood level for development projects seeking zoning amendments in their respective wards. 

    The Lincoln Square Ravenswood Chamber of Commerce provides input on proposed projects within its service area at the direction of its Board of Directors.  Sections of each neighborhood are included in the 40th Ward and 47th Ward.  For up-to-date information on zoning requests, visit each respective ward website for more details.

  • Lincoln Square Community Projects

    The Chicago Department of Planning and Development (DPD) and Department of Transportation (CDOT) are conducting several public studies and investment projects in the Lincoln Square neighborhood.
     

  • WESTERN AVENUE CORRIDOR STUDY

    A study to enhance the northern five miles of Western Avenue as a neighborhood amenity was announced by the Chicago Department of Planning and Development (DPD) and Transportation (CDOT) at the end of 2020.  The Western Avenue Corridor Study will examine land uses, development patterns, public amenities and traffic circulation along a five-mile stretch of Western Avenue, between Addison and Howard Streets.

  • LAWRENCE AVENUE STREETSCAPE

    In the fall of 2020, the Chicago Department of Transportation (CDOT) conducted a virtual community meeting to discuss and answer questions regarding the second phase of the Lawrence Avenue streetscape project.  The project will extend the streetscape from Western Avenue to the Chicago River, and will build upon the success of the first section that was completed between Clark Street and Western Avenue nearly ten years ago.

  • LELAND AVENUE GREENWAY

    The 47th Ward and Chicago Department of Transportation are currently working to expand the Leland Avenue Greenway from the Uptown neighborhood through Ravenswood and Lincoln Square.  The Greenway would create a low-stress bike path near three schools that could be used to safely commute, visit local business corridors, or just take a leisurely bike ride with family and friends between Lake Michigan and the Chicago River.

  • LINCOLN AVENUE STREETSCAPE

    In the Spring of 2021, 40th Ward Alderman Andre Vasquez announced that his office would be working with the Chicago Department of Transportation on a streetscape improvement project along Lincoln Avenue.  This streetscape study area includes the public right-of-way from Western Avenue to Catalpa Avenue.   Building off the 2019 Lincoln Square Master Plan, the project aims to increase safety, improve walkability, support economic development, enhance  public spaces, including the Ainslie Arts Plaza, and support Aldermanic plans to create an Arts District in the area.

  • Ravenswood Community Projects

    Several large-scale projects are taking place surrounding the Ravenswood Metra Train Station.  These projects will provide new amenities to transit riders, upgrade aging infrastructure, and create new hosing opportunities in the area.
     

  • CHASE BANK REDEVELOPMENT

    Located at 1825 W Lawrence Avenue, the Ravenswood & Lawrence development will replace the existing Chase Bank property with two 4-story stylish brick façade buildings.  The eastern building fronting Ravenswood will feature 59 studio apartments, and the western building will be comprised of 107 studios, 1-Bedroom, and 2-Bedroom units.

  • METRA / UNION PACIFIC NORTH LINE REHABILITATION

    The second phase of the Metra / Union Pacific North Line rehabilitation consists of building new bridges to carry the inbound tracks over 11 streets through Ravenswood, including Grace, Irving Park, Berteau, Montrose, Sunnyside, Wilson, Leland, Lawrence, Foster and Balmoral. 

    In addition, the second and final phase of the Ravenswood Station project will entail construction to the inbound / east side of the station.  The planned work will mirror that of the recently completed outbound side of the station.

  • Community Visioning

    When large scale development projects are announced, local Alderman will host community meetings and/or conduct public surveys to gather input from local residents and other stakeholders.  This section will be updated to include information on projects as received.
     

  • WESTERN & LELAND PARKING LOT COMMUNITY VISIONING

    Many city-owned parking lots have recently been redeveloped for different uses, and the local Alderman's office expects that they will receive formal proposals in the future.  The parking lot located on the northeast corner of Western and Leland Avenues is in a prime location for Transit-Oriented Development.  The 47th Ward Alderman is gathering feedback from the local residents and other stakeholders on their thoughts for the property's best use before a proposal for development is submitted.

  • LAWRENCE & WESTERN NATIONAL GROCERY RETAIL DEVELOPMENT

    At the end of 2020, the 40th Ward Alderman's office was made aware of plans to redevelop the property at the northwest corner of Lawrence and Western Avenues, currently occupied by the Fifth-Third Bank building, with a two-story commercial development anchored by an undisclosed grocery retailer.  At this time, the proposed development would be by-right within the existing zoning, which means the developer would not be required to seek Aldermanic approval for a zoning change.  LEARN MORE

  • Lincoln Square Master Plan

    The Lincoln Square Master Plan is a guiding document that our Neighborhood Improvement Program and Chamber of Commerce will look to over the next 5-10 years to make strategic decisions on where to spend funds and how to make improvements - big and small - in the Lincoln Square Special Service Area. The nearly 12-month planning process brought together residents, business owners, city stakeholders, and many others to discuss how they envision the neighborhood developing in the near future.
