Economic development normally encompasses a broad range of activities designed to help communities grow and prosper. Examples include retail attraction, retention and expansion; commercial area planning, maintenance and beautification; marketing and promotion; and workforce education and development. Many of the Lincoln Square Chamber of Commerce's programs serve the entire business district, (e.g., the Retail Attraction Program) while the remaining programs are place based (e.g., the Special Service Area Program, which provides services within a defined district where property owners have agreed to a special tax assessment). All of the Chamber of Commerce's economic development programs are administered in partnership with 47th Ward Alderman Gene Schulter and the City of Chicago Department of Planning and Development.
